Ramblings About Seeds

Seeds seem like useless little things - hard-shelled, odd-shaped nuisances that get in the way when you're trying to eat fruit. There is no way anyone can look at the outside of a seed and see what lies within - bushels of fruit, orchards of trees just waiting to burst forth!

But a seed doesn't turn into a forest overnight. It needs nurtured. A seed tossed into the trash with the leftovers has a slim chance of a bright, hopeful future. Yet a seed carefully placed in rich soil by loving hands, then watered and fed essential nutrients is expected to sprout, then slowly grow over the course of months and years.

Why is it we expect seeds to sprout up to the sky overnight like Jack's beanstalk? We know that God's way is often the path of nature - slow and patient. In Jack's story, we see that miraculous growth can often bring trouble from unforeseen enemies. Then that which seemed as big as the heavens themselves comes tumbling down.

Slow and steady often wins the race. Don't rush! Rest and wait for the best fruit.
